Job Description/Requirements
WHO WE ARE:
Stable Foods is a Kenyan start-up that creates ultra-low cost food production systems via networks of smart, connected, climate-resilient and well-trained smallholder farmers. We work with farmers to reduce their cost, increase their yield and bring their products to market better and with less post-production loss in order to enable the fundamental mission of Stable Foods: to provide affordable healthy produce for all consumers. We seek to fundamentally transform how smallholder farmers plant, grow, harvest and sell their crops, thereby working to solving two of the world’s most pressing problems: climate insecurity and food insecurity.
Stable Foods is at an exciting moment; we have a proven concept, and now we seek to scale, expanding our farming reach by 15x by the end of 2023 and 20x additional by the end of 2024. Therefore, we seek a seasoned yet agile Community Relations Manager that can lead our farmer outreach and onboarding, and be the backbone of our face within the community. This is a serious role, which could develop into a Director level position for the right candidate.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
The Community Relations Manager will be responsible for overseeing and managing Stable Foods’ relationships with all our local community partners (current and future), with a large focus on land partner onboarding. Responsibilities are both strategic (planning) and operational (executing) and will include: communicating with community members about the benefits of partnering with Stable Foods, assisting in their onboarding process (legal and physical due diligence, contract negotiation, etc), ensuring the overall satisfaction of our local farmer partners and creating the short, and medium and long term plans for all of the above. Primary KPIs include: total number of onboarded land partners, speed of onboarding and overall community satisfaction. The desired candidate enjoys speaking with community members in group and individual settings, understands outreach targets and is comfortable with conflict resolution. This position reports directly to the CEO, and will be based in and around the Stable Foods’ growing areas, which are currently based in Homa Bay County, though this location is subject to change.
JOB FUNCTIONS:
The Community Relations Manager works closely with the CEO to implement the company’s community relations functions, including partner onboarding. Responsibilities include:
• Working with the CEO to set partner onboarding targets and plans to achieve those targets and then executing on those targets
• Owning land partner outreach and onboarding from start to finish: initial conversations/group meetings, individual meetings to explain Stable Foods, negotiations, and physical and legal due diligence until the contract is signed.
• Being the community “face” of Stable Foods – problem solving, question answering, trouble-shooting in order to ensure the satisfaction of our farmer partners.
• Owning land partner relationship management, once the contract is signed.
• Maintaining good records/high level of organization throughout each process.
• Working with both farmers and company to ensure the best overall outcome.
• Working with your team to continuously scout and search for new land and new potential partners.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
• Passion for Stable Foods’ mission to bring affordable food to everyone while protecting the earth via climate resilient practices and respecting each member of the value chain.
• Bachelor’s degree with evidence of care, concern and interest in your particular subject.
• Proven track record of independence and successful target setting and achievement.
• Strong desire to directly work and engage with rural smallholding farmer communities.
• Community relationship building experience, including conflict resolution.
• Able to communicate effectively to various stakeholders: management, farmers, colleagues.
• Intermediate computer literacy skills, attention to detail and strong record keeping skills.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Physically fit enough for walking up to 10km per day in the middle of the day.
