Kenya Shipyards Limited (KSL) is a State Corporation incorporated under the Companies Act, Act No. 17 of 2015, and is fully owned by the Government of Kenya through the National Treasury.
The mandate of the KSL is to lead and catalyze the development of shipbuilding industry in Eastern Africa with a focus on meeting the local demand of maritime assets and services from the Kenya Navy, Ministries, Departments & Agencies and other private domestic and regional clients.
The Board of Directors is inviting applications from qualified and experienced professionals to fill the following position(s):

This is a five (5) year contract renewable subject to satisfactory performance and retirement age.

Job Purpose:
The General Manager, Internal Audit is responsible for providing strategic leadership and coordination in internal audit function in the Company through independently and objectively evaluating the company’s operations by assessing the processes, risk management framework, internal controls and governance structures for proper functioning and make recommendations for improvement.
Key Responsibilities / Duties / Tasks:
Managerial / Supervisory Responsibilities:
a) Provide leadership in the development and execution of the Company’s strategy in Internal Audit.
b) Coordinate development and implementation of policies, procedures and manuals to ensure effectiveness of the assurance function of the Company.
c) Provide requisite regular reporting in compliance with internal and external guidelines and requirements.
d) Provide regular reports in compliance with the PFM Act, 2012 and any other regulations or standards.
e) Spearhead development of a business continuity plan and disaster recovery policies.
f) Provide leadership on evaluation and reporting on adequacy and relevance of existing internal controls and systems and make recommendations for improvements.
Operational Responsibilities / Tasks:
a) Develop a risk management and control framework.
b) Review the Company’s utilization of resources for compliance with the financial guidelines.
c) Undertake special audits or investigations as and when required.
d) Liaise with the external auditors and monitor the implementation of External Audit recommendations.
e) Review and report on compliance with policies, plans, procedures, legal and regulatory requirements and public sector guidelines.
f) Identify, evaluate, mitigate and monitor operational and strategic risks of the function.
g) Evaluating effectiveness of the governance processes.
h) Assessing existing risk of audited area and report that assessment to management and the audit committee.
i) Conducting scheduled and ad hoc audits in the corporation.
j) Advising on use of and implementation of modern technology for effective audit management and control. Job Dimensions:

Works predominantly in an office environment with limited field duties.
Job Competencies (Knowledge, Experience and Attributes / Skills):
Academic Qualifications:
a) Master’s degree in any of the following disciplines: – Finance, Accounting, Business Admiration (Finance or Accounting option) economics or equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution.
b) First level degree in any of the following disciplines from an accredited University/College; Finance, Accounting, Business Admiration (Finance or Accounting option) economics or equivalent qualifications combined with the required work experience may be accepted in lieu of the Master’s degree.
Professional Qualifications / Membership to professional bodies:
a) Certified Internal Auditor (CIA).
b) Passed Part III of Certified Public Accountants (CPA) Kenya examination or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
c) Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA).
d) Be a registered member of Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) (Kenya Chapter) or any other a relevant professional body.
e) Undertaken Leadership/Management course from a recognized institution.
f) Proficiency in Computer application skills.
Previous relevant work experience required:
▪ A minimum period of twelve (12) years relevant work experience five (5) of which should have been in a senior management level.
