Job Description/Requirements
The Office of the Auditor-General (OAG) is an Independent Office established under Article 229 of the Constitution of Kenya. The Office is charged with the primary
oversight role of ensuring accountability in the use of public resources within the three arms of Government (the Legislature, the Judiciary and the Executive) as well as the Constitutional Commissions, Independent Office and any entity that is funded from public funds.
Pursuant to Article 252 (1) (c) of the Constitution, the Office seeks to recruit qualified and competent staff to fill the following positions:

GRAPHIC DESIGNER: GRADE OAG 9 (1 Post)

Purpose of the job:
The Graphic Designer will be responsible to the Manager, Communications for creation of visual ideas and content for application in OAG publications and communications platforms.
Duties and Responsibilities
1) Support in development and implementation of the overall OAG brand design guidelines;
2) Conceptualize and design a wide range of creative graphics, illustrations and layouts for logos, publications, reports, banners, IEC materials, corporate merchandize, website and social media platforms in line with OAG mandate;
3) Prepare visual concepts/artwork in line with the design briefs;
4) Ensure correct application of OAG corporate colour codes on designs and artworks;
5) Work with printers to ensure quality printing of OAG publications and other IEC materials;
6) Test graphics across various OAG communications channels to ascertain applicability;
7) Ensure final graphics and layouts are visually appealing, on-brand and communicate to OAG stakeholders;
8) Create short video clips/animation to enhance OAG messages on social media;
9) Use own innovation and creativity to illustrate different OAG concepts on its diverse digital media platforms; and
10) Perform any other duty as may be assigned from time to time.
Requirements for Appointment:
1) Diploma in any of the following fields: – Graphic Design, Public Relations, Corporate Communication, Journalism, Mass Communications, Photography, Videography or any other equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
2) At least three (3) years’ proven graphics designing experience;
3) A strong portfolio of illustrations or other graphics;
4) Certificate in computer application from a recognized institution;
5) Knowledge and skills in videography and photography will be added advantage.
Core Competences
1) Design skills – Familiarity with design software and technologies (such as InDesign, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Photoshop, adobe premier pro, Acrobat PDF Pro-all Adobe Creative Cloud);
2) Branding – Knowledge of processes and procedures to establish an image or brand by shaping how and what different stakeholders’ perceptions of the office will be. Knowledge of corporate identity principles, logo creation and ways to showcase the brand across all media;
3) Creativity/ Innovativeness – ability to develop original and unique ideas of design and branding to deliver effective and aesthetically appealing messaging for
the Office;
4) Content Development – Knowledge of the process of researching, writing, gathering, organizing, and editing information for publication;
5) Creative Writing – Knowledge of writing in a way that is not academic or technical but still interesting and appealing to various internal and external stakeholders of the office;
6) Event Management – Knowledge of the process to envision, plan and execute events for the office and relevant stakeholders. Knowledge of project management
principles including budgets, schedules, and vendors to create the best possible professional events;
7) Knowledge of IT Communication Systems – Knowledge of methodology and software (web-based) that the office uses to share information, communicate and interact with relevant internal or external stakeholders;
8) Teamwork – Work collaboratively and effectively with others to set goals, resolve problems, and make decisions that enhance effective communication within OAG;
9) Effective Communication – Speak, listen, and write in a clear, thorough, and efficient manner using appropriate and effective communication tools and techniques. Speak eloquently and engagingly in meetings, in one-on-one situations as well as in small and large groups. Listen, be receptive to the counterpart and adapt to the situation. Adjust the message to the recipient.
10) Photography and video editing skills – ability to think creatively but deliberately about the subject, composition and lighting as well as editing of photos and videos.
11) A keen eye for aesthetics and details
12) Ability to work methodically and meet tight deadlines
