Kenya Shipyards Limited (KSL) is a State Corporation incorporated under the Companies Act, Act No. 17 of 2015, and is fully owned by the Government of Kenya through the National Treasury.
The mandate of the KSL is to lead and catalyze the development of shipbuilding industry in Eastern Africa with a focus on meeting the local demand of maritime assets and services from the Kenya Navy, Ministries, Departments & Agencies and other private domestic and regional clients.
The Board of Directors is inviting applications from qualified and experienced professionals to fill the following position(s):

This is a five (5) year contract renewable subject to satisfactory performance and retirement age.

Job Purpose:
The job holder is responsible for planning and providing Warehouse services to the Corporation, receiving and storing the Corporation’s assets, leading distribution process and providing inventory accuracy at all Warehouse facilities across Kenya in line with KSL business strategy, Public Procurement & Asset Disposal Act, Regulations and the company policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities / Duties / Tasks:
Managerial / Supervisory Responsibilities:
a) Managing the flow of all products including inbound shipment receipts, outbound shipments, and maintaining control of all on-site inventory.
b) Managing incoming receipts of goods including cycle-counts to promote accuracy and compliance with company policies and procedures.
c) Leading order management and ensuring that they are properly loaded/recorded into Warehouse management systems, and accurately fulfilled.
d) Coordinating with Procurement, Production and MRO Departments on out-of-stocks to assess replacement and/ or provide necessary information.
e) Coordinating disposal of unserviceable, obsolete, obsolescent, or surplus stores, equipment or assets.
Operational Responsibilities / Tasks:
a) Working closely with Production and MRO Department as well as Procurement, Logistics and Transport divisions to plan order fulfillment.
b) Monitoring order picking and delivery to ensure that work is on-schedule. Work to resolve issues/ errors to ensure on-time and accurate fulfillment.
c) Driving continuous Improvement by identifying wastes/ inefficiencies/ errors, assessing root causes, and working cross functionally to address the issues.
d) Conducting daily analysis, identify potential issues, assess root causes, and resolve problems with inventory, short-dated products, or damaged inventories.
e) Ensuring order tracking information is sent to the correct parties, as needed.
f) Verifying the accuracy of the inventory records. Job Dimensions:

Problem Solving:
The job holder will be required to solve the following type of problems:
a) The job solves warehousing related problems affecting in-flow and out flow of inventories.
b) Resolve issues of obsolete inventory or damaged inventories.
c) Addressing wastes, inefficiencies and errors in the warehousing management processes and systems.
d) Inadequate skills in the maritime management systems of warehousing related goods.
Communication
The job holder will need to understand the following information to discharge their mandate:
a) Detailed verbal and written instructions or requests to and from user departments.
b) Written internal policy documents, procedures, laws, and regulations in the public sector/or the company.
c) Warehousing trends, technologies and reports affecting the Shipbuilding Industry.
d) Detailed verbal or written instructions or requests to employees of the institution or contractors.
Decision Making/ Job Influence:
a) Provide advice to the General Manager in emerging warehousing trends, platforms and systems.
b) Initiate linkages, collaborations and interactions with various customers and suppliers.
Working Conditions:
Works predominantly in an office environment with limited field travels.
Job Competencies (Knowledge, Experience and Attributes / Skills):
Academic Qualifications:
a) Master’s Degree in any of the following fields: – Business Administration, Economics, Procurement and Supplies Management or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
b) First level university degree in any of the following disciplines from an accredited University/College: – Procurement and Supplies Management, Procurement and Logistics, Commerce, Business Administration (Supplies Management Option), Economics or equivalent qualifications combined with the required work experience may be accepted in lieu of the Master’s degree.
Professional Qualifications / Membership to professional bodies:
a) Professional qualification/certification in relevant field; preferably Procurement
b) Membership to a professional body either KISM or CIPS
c) Undertaken Leadership/ Management Course from a recognized institution.
d) Proficient in Computer applications.
Previous relevant work experience required:
a) At least ten (10) years’ working experience three (3) years of which should be in a managerial position.
b) Work experience in planning, receiving and storing goods, distribution and inventory management is desirable. International experience in similar role is an added advantage.
